Women in Lifesaving

Overview

Overview

In June 2013, Life Saving Victoria (LSV) launched the Female Leadership Network (FLN), with a mission to bring women from all facets of the organisation together to inspire and be inspired. We hoped to encourage and champion women in leadership by identifying and supporting positive women role models, empowering women through personal development and by providing them with an opportunity to network and share.

On March 3, 2022, the FLN was rebranded to the Women in Lifesaving Panel, to reflect the growth of the network and to resonate with the wider lifesaving membership.

The Women in Lifesaving Panel aims to provide women including both staff and volunteer members, the opportunity to build capacity. Ten years in, the Women in Lifesaving Panel continues to grow through keynote sessions, networking events, master classes, training, support of state and international scholarships and providing a range of professional development opportunities. The panel continues to expand to the broader LSV community including our Aquatic Industry, Emergency Service and Sport and Recreation industry sectors.

The recognition of our Male Champions of change within Women in Lifesaving has been an important and essential step in building awareness of gender equality and the ongoing evolution of women in leadership within lifesaving.

The essence of the Female Leadership Network (FLN) is about providing our people with the opportunity to connect, enhance their leadership skills, provide useful strategies and tools and to help expand their network in lifesaving and professionally. Our first face to face session for 2021, promises to include all of these elements.

The FLN Panel is delighted to invite our loyal members to an evening of inspiration, connection, knowledge building and key learnings. This session is open to all female members 18+, our male Champions, and the broader Aquatic and Emergency Service Industries.

This session will entail key information about personal brand, and the significant impact this can have on how others perceive you and your ability to build connections. We will hear from a highly accomplished panel about their journey in lifesaving and the tools and strategies they have used to connect and navigate their way through the various roles that they have held. We would learn about what it means to have supporters and a network or advocates and how this is different from a Board of Directors.
The session will conclude with a workshop connecting you to likeminded people, either through various roles/responsibilities, or perceived challenges or opportunities/vision.
