Get ready for our 2021 Pool Lifeguard Challenge:
The Pool Lifeguard Challenge is an annual competition, inviting Victorian aquatic facilities to enter teams of four lifeguards to compete against other Victorian facilities in a range of scenarios, relays and a theory component, to crown Victoria’s best lifeguard team.
The competition is designed to test lifeguards in scenarios they may face at their own facility and includes wet and dry scenarios, a theory paper based on the Pool Lifeguard and First Aid handbook and the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operations and technical-based relays using rescue equipment like tow ropes.
Due to COVID-19 density quotas, the event will be limited to a maximum of 24 teams, which is offered on a first come, first serve basis, so be sure to register as quickly as possible to avoid disappointment.
Where & When:
Friday 3 September 2021,
Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, 30 Aughtie Drive, Albert Park
Although the setting is competitive, those racing do not need to be the fastest or strongest swimmers to compete, with previous winners being those who keep their heads cool during a challenge, work well as a team, have sound technical abilities and communicate effectively.
The safety of all competitors is the highest priority when conducting the Pool Lifeguard Challenge. In order to maintain safety and lifesaving standards, there are standards of competence that are a pre-requisite. Competitors need to be:
- Certified Pool Lifeguards
- Certified Provide First Aid
- Capable of a depth dive down to 2.0m
- Capable of swimming 800m in a 25m and 50m pool
- Work in the role of a lifeguard on a regular basis
