School Swimming and water safety toolkit
Schools must ensure they carry out the appropriate planning with regards to supervision and risk management prior to undertaking swimming and water safety programs, regardless of whether delivered by the school or outsourced to an external provider. The Department of Education and Training (DET) Policy and Advisory Library provides Victorian schools with access to governance and operational policies and advice.
The Policy and Advisory Library includes key information and advice relating to governance and operational policies for Victorian government schools.
Information within the Library is based on the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 and the Education and Training Reform Regulations 2007, as well as other legislative and regulatory requirements.
Detailed information can be found in Swimming Instruction and Water Safety Education policy.
It is important for schools to ensure they are following safety policies and advice highlighted in the Library. Information relating to program requirements, supervision ratios, qualification requirements and emergency procedures are outlined in the Swimming and Water Activities (including instructional swimming) guide.
The following relevant policies are also found within the Library
