Trainers and Assessors are required to keep up to date with their industry and the Vocational Education and Training sector. There are a multitude of ways to do this, we have provided you with some links and ideas below. When you visit or sign up to any of the below it is not just about what you read it is how it will affect your practice as an educator. Take the time digest the content you have read you could use the following technique to help you process the information because it is not just about what you remember from reading the content it is more important to recall what you think when you are reading the content.
RTO Policy RTO-PO-012 Trainers and Assessors Skills and Development outlines the PD requirements for our Trainers:
“All trainers and assessors providing a training and assessment service must participate in regular activities to ensure currency within the industry that is being delivered and assessed, and professional development in Vocational Learning and Assessment as a condition of engagement.
LSV expects that as a minimum, trainers and assessors will complete the following hours of professional development :
– Full time Trainers and Assessors – 30 hours per annum
– Casual & volunteer Trainers and Assessors (including Third Party Providers) – 8 hours per annum
It is expected that this PD primarily focuses on vocational learning and assessment (how you train) and should build on your existing qualifications in this area. ”
Remember to submit your PD each time you do it and keep a record for yourself to show that you are continually improving your skills and knowledge. To assist you in recording your PD, especially where you are completing readings, webinars and videos that do not result in evidence, we have developed a VET Professional Development Log.
