The Ripple Effect

A new and free water safety program targeting secondary school students delivered by Life Saving Victoria (LSV) and fully funded by the Victorian Department of Education through the Strategic Partnerships Program.

About this program

The program uses engaging, practical and scenario-based learning delivered by LSV educators, supported by custom digital resources. Bookings are available in Terms 2 and 3 across 2026–27, at no cost to your school.

Program outline

Students who complete The Ripple Effect will cover:

  • Recognising risks in and around water
  • Making safe decisions at pools, rivers and beaches
  • Responding to an emergency and calling for help
  • Looking out for friends around water
School Surf League

The School Surf League is Life Saving Victoria's annual summer beach carnival for secondary school students, giving schools the chance to compete in surf lifesaving sport at one of Victoria's most iconic beaches.

About this program

Students compete in beach and water events testing endurance, strength, speed and agility — from sprints and flags to swim, board and team events. The carnival is open to all Victorian secondary schools, and schools may combine to form composite teams for team events to maximise participation.

Program outline

Students who take part in the School Surf League will:

  • Compete in beach and water events testing speed, strength, endurance and agility
  • Develop teamwork and water confidence in a supported surf environment
  • Experience lifesaving sport with water safety managed by LSV
  • Discover pathways into their local lifesaving club
