According to Surf Life Saving Australia’s 2025 National Coastal Safety Report, over the 2024/25 reporting period there were more than 630 million coastal visitations, 239 lives were lost in coastal environments, with 154 due to drowning, and 8,207 rescues from our surf lifesavers and lifeguards. Eighty-seven per-cent of coastal drownings were male, 55% were aged 55 years and over, and every drowning occurring outside of the red and yellow flags or patrol times.
To combat these tragic figures, Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) is calling for all beachgoers to Stop, Look, and Stay Alive.
