Building Confidence in the Water — One Lesson at a Time | Lisa Brooks, LSV Education Instructor
Helping people feel confident in the water takes more than teaching skills – it takes encouragement, patience, and a genuine commitment to safety.
Lisa Brooks brings a strong background in physical education to her role at LSV as an Education Instructor and Education Program Leader. After spending many years at home raising her three sons, Lisa began looking for an opportunity that would fit around her small business – and allow her to put her skills and experience into practice.
“Two of my sons worked as Education Instructors and absolutely loved it,” Lisa says. “I heard their stories and met their friends at LSV – and everyone spoke so positively about the work and the people.”
With the beach firmly in her “happy place” category, Lisa saw the role as a natural fit. The flexibility, the chance to build new skills, and the opportunity to teach people of all ages to swim and stay safe in and around the water gave her the confidence to take the next step.
In her role, Lisa supports the delivery of education programs and helps create positive, safe learning experiences for participants and teams. She also values the way the work builds capability in others – not just in the water, but in confidence, communication and teamwork.
“Every shift is a team-building exercise – and you’re at the beach,” she says. “You build confidence, public speaking, adaptability, teamwork, organisational skills, flexibility and leadership. And the friendships are a real bonus.”
For the Brooks family, that connection to LSV and water safety runs deep. It’s been especially meaningful to see that commitment recognised more broadly too – with Education Instructor Connor Brooks named 2025 Education Instructor of the Year at the LSV Awards of Excellence, reflecting the same energy, empathy and inclusive approach that makes such a difference in education settings.
Through her work, Lisa is helping more people build skills, confidence and water safety – one lesson at a time.
