Celebrating Inclusion in Sport: Veronica Treloar Named ASC Sport Volunteer of the Year
The Australian Sports Commission has awarded Williamstown Swimming & Life Saving Club volunteer, Veronica Treloar, with the 2025 ASC Sport Volunteer of the Year title for her incredible commitment to inclusion.
For nearly a decade, Veronica has championed opportunities for children and athletes with disabilities through the Starfish Nippers program. Under her leadership, participation has grown from five to 20 children, supported by a one-to-one volunteer ratio that ensures safety and confidence for every participant.
Her impact goes beyond her local club. In 2024, Veronica joined Life Saving Victoria’s Adaptive Sport Working Group, helping introduce adaptive events at major lifesaving carnivals. Thanks to her efforts, 23 athletes with disabilities competed for the first time, creating new pathways for belonging and achievement.
ASC CEO Kieren Perkins praised Veronica’s dedication, saying her work reflects the fairness, integrity and inclusion that define Australian sport.
Congratulations, Veronica, on this well-deserved recognition. Your leadership is inspiring a more inclusive future for lifesaving sport.
