LSV is pleased to note the significant federal investment in energy-efficient upgrades across Victorian aquatic facilities, announced through the Albanese Government’s $100 million Community Energy Upgrades Fund. Ten Victorian councils will share in $10 million to electrify and modernise much-loved community assets, including several major aquatic centres. These upgrades will help reduce operating costs, cut emissions and improve the long-term sustainability of essential community facilities. The funding highlights the growing national focus on transitioning pools and leisure centres away from gas and towards cleaner, more resilient energy systems.

Several Victorian projects focus directly on aquatic infrastructure, recognising the high energy demands associated with pool heating, ventilation and water treatment. Noteworthy initiatives include:

  • Eltham Leisure Centre (Nillumbik Shire): transitioning to an all-electric facility through a $2.49 million upgrade to pool heating systems and electrical supply.
  • Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre: receiving $658,000 to upgrade pool heating and improve energy efficiency.
  • Kardinia Aquatic Centre (City of Greater Geelong): electrification works supported by an $849,000 grant.
  • Warragul Leisure Centre (Baw Baw Shire): receiving $1.15 million to improve plant efficiency and reduce operating costs.
  • Waves Leisure Centre (Kingston City Council): advancing its electrification program with a $2.5 million investment.

These works reflect a wider national trend, with 33 aquatic centres across Australia receiving support in this round. Most projects include solar generation, and more than half incorporate battery storage to stabilise costs and strengthen operational resilience.
