Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre (Glen Eira Leisure) took the top spot on the podium for the 2025 Life Saving Victoria Pool Lifeguard Challenge for the fourth year in a row.
Caydence Bezzina, Cooper Stanley, Sam Pearson and Jenna Goldney took on 23 teams representing pools and aquatic facility operators from across Victoria, winning the annual competition with 263 points. Werribee Outdoor Pool (WynActive) came in second with 253 points, with Waves Leisure Centre (Kingston Active) in third with 252.
The Pool Lifeguard Challenge involved more than seven hours of grueling competition at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
Participants were pitted against one another in a range of events including simulated emergency incidents, medical treatments, and people management scenarios that put their real-world water safety and rescue skills to the test.
The annual event is an opportunity for some friendly, fun and fierce competition, and provides a valuable platform for team-based learning, developing critical thinking and professional growth.
Life Saving Victoria Senior Manager – Aquatic Industry Services Alek Olszewski said the event was a fantastic success.
“On top of being a lot of fun, the event is key to helping our lifeguards keep their skills sharp and fresh so they’re rescue-ready to keep our community safe in the water.”
This year, LifeTec Rescue Training Manikins supported the event by awarding a Ruth Lee Manikin to Aquarena Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Templestowe Lower for achieving the best performance in the deep-water retrieval event, recognising excellence in rescue skill and technique.
