September 2025 CEO Update
Life Saving Victoria is making its final preparations for the Summer Patrol Season, ensuring our clubs and volunteers are equipped to keep our community safe in the water.
The red and yellow flags will go up on Victorian beaches on November 15, and with the weather getting warmer, it’s timely to remind everyone to keep water safety top-of-mind.
The easiest things to do include:
- Make sure you always swim with a friend, check conditions before heading out,
- avoid alcohol around water,
- wear a life jacket when boating or fishing, and of course,
- swim at patrolled areas between the flags where possible.
By focusing on these four actions, you can keep yourself and your loved ones safe, and you’ll help make this summer season a memorable one for all the right reasons.
September was a standout month for our Club Support and Aquatic Capability teams, who demonstrated their expertise and professionalism at key annual events.
Our Club Preseason Forum earlier this month brought our volunteers together in preparation for the Summer Patrol Season.
This annual event provided members with an opportunity to network and gain insights on a range of key areas including emergency response operating procedures; training and skills maintenance; leadership development pathways; and club administration.
Additionally, LSV’s best aquatic minds were proud to partner with Aquatics & Recreation Victoria (ARV) to deliver the 2025 Victorian Aquatic and Recreation Industry Conference, which brought together leaders, practitioners, and partners from across the state for three days of collaboration, reflection, and inspiration.
The event saw a strong turnout with delegates deeply engaged in sessions that tackled both current challenges and future opportunities.
Thank you to everyone who attended these events, and to all who prepared, presented and contributed to their overwhelming success.
The LSV team, together with the future governance working group is continuing work on recommendations from the Governance Review to create a modern, fit-for-purpose system of governance for our organisation.
The core objective of this work is to give LSV a foundational structure that enables us to best respond to the needs of our members and fulfil our purpose to save lives and empower communities to safely enjoy water.
We want our governance structure to ensure LSV is equipped to continue seeking out and listening to the voices of our members through truly accessible and inclusive governance mechanisms, now and into the future.
A new draft constitution and by-laws are currently being drafted, and these will soon be socialised with members for feedback. Following feedback and refinement, these key governance documents will be proposed for adoption by Members at an upcoming LSV General Meeting.
In the meantime, the development of LSV’s new Strategic Plan for 2026-2030 is continuing to progress well.
This is the final year of our 2021-2025 Strategic Plan, and we have conducted various engagements with our members, partners and stakeholders in recent months to build this important document, setting out the future direction, vision, and priorities for our organisation.
Following the engagement and consultation process, a draft plan will be created and reviewed by the LSV Executive and Board before being launched at the 2025 Annual General Meeting.
I thank and commend everyone within LSV and the lifesaving movement for your tireless energy and dedication to water safety and drowning-prevention at this particularly busy time of year. Your efforts make an incredible contribution to our community.
