Water Safety at Blue Rock Lake

Drouin Primary School students had a great day out learning water safety as part of one of LSVâs Lifesaving Education Programs.
Eighty-five students aged 10 to 12 visited Gippslandâs Blue Rock Lake, where they were taken through a range of exercises including survival swim strokes, how to spot hazards in aquatic environments, rescue and resuscitation, board paddling and how to use lifejackets safely.
The day was an opportunity for students to gain vital lifesaving and water safety skills in a local waterway, and ensure theyâre equipped to make good decisions when in, on and around the water.
Drouin Primary School PE Teacher Tim Lappin said the day was a highly worthwhile and rewarding experience.
âOur students thoroughly enjoyed the water-based activities, using the flotation devices to support a rescue and of course the pink rashies,â Mr Lappin said.Â
LSVâs Lifesaving Education Programs can be run at beaches, rivers, lakes, pools and in the classroom. Programs run across Victoria, and sessions can be adapted for all ages and abilities.
