Learning Water Safety Locally

“Our students enjoyed being at the river environment to learn about water safety as this is their back yard!”

Students from Cobram Special Development School learned swimming and water safety skills “in their own backyard” during an LSV Lifesaving Education Program.

The program, run at nearby Thompsons Beach, saw 35 students take part in activities including practice rescues, board paddling, spotting hazards in aquatic environments and learning how to wear a lifejacket safely.

LSV’s Lifesaving Education Programs run at beaches, rivers, lakes, pools and classrooms across the state, and can be adapted to participants of all ages and abilities.

Programs aim to ensure students have the water safety skills and knowledge they need to make good decisions when enjoying their local waterways.

Cobram Special Development School’s Denise Ross said the day was a terrific success.

“Our students enjoyed being at the river environment to learn about water safety as this is their back yard!” Ms Ross said.
