New LSV Life Members

Two exceptional volunteer members have been recognised for their enduring commitment and transformative impact on the lifesaving community.

Two exceptional volunteer members have been awarded Life Membership of Life Saving Victoria (LSV) for their enduring commitment and transformative impact on the lifesaving community.

Life Memberships recognise individuals who have delivered distinguished, sustained, and conspicuous service to the lifesaving movement for over fifteen years.

Angela Malan: Champion of Equity and Wellbeing

Inverloch Surf Life Saving Club member Angela Malan has dedicated more than 16 years of outstanding service to lifesaving. A visionary leader, Angela has driven significant advancements in membership engagement, leadership development, child safety, and mental health.

She founded several initiatives that empower women and young people, including Ready to Lead, the Youth Symposium, the Mentor Program, and Business Boot Camps. Her efforts have extended internationally through training exchanges with Sri Lanka and locally through the implementation of LSV’s child-safe standards.

Angela also co-developed the Peer Support Network and the State Welfare Officer framework, both of which continue to support member wellbeing. Her ongoing contributions through patrolling, committee involvement, and mentoring have left a lasting legacy of increased equity, engagement, and resilience across Victoria’s lifesaving movement.

Tom Mollenkopf AO: Architect of Lifesaving Leadership

Tom Mollenkopf AO has contributed more than 20 years of dedicated service to Life Saving Victoria. As one of LSV’s Presidents following the merger of Surf Life Saving Victoria and Royal Life Saving – Victoria, Tom provided strong and inclusive leadership that helped shape the organisation’s early success.

He played a pivotal role in expanding school swimming and water safety education programs and in developing initiatives to improve water safety within Victoria’s multicultural communities. Tom also chaired the Grievance and Judiciary Committee and served as a Director on the Surf Life Saving Australia Board, where he contributed to major national reforms.

Tom’s leadership elevated LSV’s role within Victoria’s emergency services ecosystem and provided invaluable mentorship to successive leadership teams. His sustained and transformative contributions have left an enduring impact on both LSV and the broader lifesaving community.

Celebrating Lifelong Service

Thank you, Angela and Tom, for contributing to the spirit of volunteerism and leadership that defines LSV. Their Life Membership honours not only their achievements but also the values of service, safety, and community that guide LSV’s mission.
