Water Safety at Frankston Beach

“The activities run by staff were very engaging and students learned a lot about themselves and their safety around water as well as looking after others. The activities were excellent, and the students loved the competitiveness. Great staff facilitators.”

Students from Rangebank Primary School in Cranbourne learned vital water safety skills and knowledge during a Lifesaving Education Program at Frankston Beach.

The 76 students in years five and six took part in a range of activities including rescue techniques, using a lifejacket and bodyboard safely, basic first-aid and resuscitation.

The session also covered how to stay safe when visiting beaches and coastal environments, including swimming between the red and yellow flags, how to spot a rip and what to do if students got stuck in deep water or strong currents.

Rangebank Primary School PE teacher Scott Mackie said the day was a rewarding and enjoyable one for everyone who took part.

“The activities run by staff were very engaging and students learned a lot about themselves and their safety around water as well as looking after others,” Mr Mackie said.

“The activities were excellent, and the students loved the competitiveness. Great staff facilitators.”
