The Young President Making Waves at Rosebud and McCrae Life Saving Club

After starting as a Nipper, 21-year-old Jackson Twentyman saw an opportunity to contribute to his club. "My youthful energy often surprises members; many of whom assume I have a great skincare routine rather than realising my actual age!'

Located on the Mornington Peninsula, the Rosebud and McCrae Life Saving Club, founded in 1962, is a unique club known for its deep-rooted community connections, with 80% of members living locally.

The club's longest-standing member is still going strong after 60 years of membership, and her roots run deep. Her mother was one of the founding members, and her 10-year-old granddaughter now participates in the Nippers program. It's a powerful symbol of the generations of dedication and passion for lifesaving that continue to thrive in our community!

A proud volunteer-driven organisation, the club members take pride in their contribution, dedication and community spirit, but the club president brings a unique twist into the recent history of this little Mornington Peninsula club.

A Journey to Leadership

Growing up, Jackson Twentyman's parents believed it was essential to be beach-smart and signed him up for the local Nippers program. Keen to support his kids, Jackson's dad trained and received his bronze medallion to become a certified lifesaver himself.

With the Rosebud & McCrae Life Saving Club facing the challenges of shrinking membership in 2019, 21-year-old Jackson saw an opportunity to contribute to the club with his background in commerce and passion for financial literacy.

Suddenly, he found himself in a treasury position. With the support of an incredible team, he spent the next four years meticulously analysing budgets and increasing the club's bank balance, allowing reinvesting in the community.

This included reviving the Nipper program after a decade-long hiatus, a personal achievement for Jackson. His sister re-joined the club's program after relocating to another club to continue her passion in nippers when the Rosebud and McCrae club program closed. She's now an active part of the Nippers program again, finding much joy in giving back to the next generation.

Jackson's role as treasurer set him up for the next leap – President.

Vision for the Future

Jackson's age has never been a barrier.

"My youthful energy often surprises members; many of whom assume I have a great skincare routine rather than realising my actual age!' he said.

So, what's next for the little club that could?

Today, the club is not just surviving but thriving!

Jackson hopes to grow the facilities at the clubhouse to create a multi-purpose space promoting a healthy lifestyle, building a community that prioritises health, safety, and an active lifestyle, plus better services for members and even growing member numbers.

Most importantly, Jackson wants an inclusive club that creates lasting memories and friendships that keep the club alive and continue active patrolling to keep the community water safe.
